October 22, 2026
Most of Galt's community Halloween is on Saturday, Oct. 24, a week before the holiday. On that one day there's a harvest festival on Colony Road, a Día de Muertos celebration on Joy Drive and the Old Town trick-or-treat stroll on 4th Street. All three are free, and the first two run at the same time.
Halloween falls on a Saturday this year too, but the calendar is much lighter that night. The big public events come first. The 31st belongs to a historic house on Oak Avenue and a skate party on Myrtle Avenue. If your plan is to wait for the 31st and see what's going on, you'll miss most of it.
Here's how the day looks with everything on one grid:
| Time | Event | Where | Cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. | Harvest Festival and Farmers Market | Apple Creek Vineyard Farm, 11517 Colony Rd | Free |
| 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. | Día de Muertos celebration | 14180 Joy Drive | Free |
| 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. | Old Town Galt Trick or Treat on 4th Street | 4th Street between B and E streets | Free |
The two daytime events overlap for five hours. Then there's a gap of about an hour after Joy Drive wraps at 3 p.m., and downtown starts at 4. One family can get to all three, but only if they treat the morning as two stops and plan for costumes going on in the afternoon.
Apple Creek Vineyard Farm is calling its 2026 Harvest Festival and Farmers Market "a day of local vendors, seasonal goods, and community fun," according to its Sacramento365 listing. The listing includes u-pick pomegranates, a pumpkin patch, face painting and a farmers market. Admission is free.
The u-pick pomegranates are what make this different from the usual fall farm stop. Pumpkins are on every October calendar in the county. Picking pomegranates off the tree is rarer. The farm itself sells certified organic produce.
The vendor list is all small makers, many of them selling things already pointed at the holidays:
With wreaths and Christmas stockings on the tables in late October, part of this festival is really an early start on gift shopping. If you pass on Colony Road, the next chance to buy from these particular vendors in one place isn't on any posted calendar. The farm posts updates on its Instagram page.
Across town, the Día de Muertos celebration at 14180 Joy Drive starts at 9 a.m. too and runs until 3 p.m. The City of Galt calendar entry describes it as a gathering "to remember, honor and celebrate our loved ones," a free event that brings "families and friends together for a day of remembrance and celebration."
The listing names a dove release, live entertainment, a car show and food vendors.
The car show and the food vendors fit easily into a busy Saturday. The rest of the event is about remembrance, so it pays to show up ready for that and not treat it as one more Halloween stop. Because Joy Drive is the one event of the three that goes until 3 p.m., it's also the easiest to fit in after the farm. Picking pomegranates first and heading to Joy Drive around midday gives you time at both.
The Old Town Galt Trick or Treat on 4th Street is hosted by L'Chayim of Galt. It's a free stroll along 4th Street between B Street and E Street, from 4 to 7 p.m. According to the city's event listing, "local businesses, service groups, nonprofits and community organizations will be joining in the Halloween fun," and families are invited to come in their favorite costumes.
This is the one event on the 24th that's a straight-up Halloween event, and it's still a full week before October 31. If your kids only want one costume outing, this is the one that brings together the most downtown businesses and groups in one place. The 4 p.m. start also means young trick-or-treaters can finish before dark and still eat dinner at a normal time.
The early date also means two separate costume nights for families. Anyone who wants a second round on the 31st has two smaller options waiting.
Before Halloween weekend, Galt Market After Hours runs Tuesday, Oct. 27, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Galt Market Grounds, 610 Chabolla Avenue. The city listing promotes vendors, fresh produce, food and live music. The listing doesn't mention a Halloween theme, so plan on a regular evening market.
It also breaks up the week well. If you ran out of time for produce on the 24th because the farm and Joy Drive took up the morning, Tuesday evening is your next chance.
On Saturday, Oct. 31, the Galt Area Historical Society hosts Halloween at the Rae, from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Rae House Museum, 204 Oak Avenue. The city calendar entry promises "a haunted house, scary creatures and plenty of candy for the kids," and calls it a free, family-friendly evening.
The house is the reason to go. The Rae House is a Victorian Queen Anne Cottage-style home built in 1868 and once lived in by John Rae and his family, as the Galt Herald reported in June. It fell into disrepair and came close to demolition. The historical society then launched its "Save the Rae" campaign, paid for through fundraisers, donations, business support and help from the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors. The City of Galt finally secured the house for the society by negotiating a deal with a developer, and the society turned it into a museum.
A haunted house inside a 158-year-old building that almost wasn't saved is something most Halloween events can't match. The evening is put on by the same nonprofit that kept the house standing.
An hour after the Rae opens, the Neighborhood Skate Party starts at Galt Adventist Church, 619 Myrtle Avenue, from 6 to 9 p.m. The calendar listing describes a western-themed party with skating, food and a DJ, and asks families to bring candy. It doesn't call itself a Halloween event. It's a themed party that happens to land on Halloween night, so cowboy boots will fit right in.
The two events overlap from 6 to 9 p.m. A family could go to the Rae when it opens at 5 and get to Myrtle Avenue while the skate party is still going.
Last year the City of Galt held its Spookishly Fun Movie Night at Veterans Field on Friday, Oct. 24, 2025. Gates opened at 5:45 p.m., kids could trick-or-treat, and Coco played at dusk, according to the city's 2025 bulletin.
As of mid-October, the city's special events page doesn't list a 2026 version or any other October Halloween event from Parks and Recreation. Calendars sometimes fill in late. If the Veterans Field movie was part of your family's routine, check that page again before the weekend.
Over in Wilton, Fog Willow Farms keeps its pumpkin patch open through Oct. 31, with a petting zoo and hayrides on its nine acres, the Galt Herald reported. So if Colony Road's patch on the 24th doesn't fit your schedule, there's still a pumpkin patch open right through Halloween.
The calendar keeps moving in early November. The Saturday Market Series at the 4th Street Promenade runs on the first Saturday of each month, March through November, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., so Nov. 7 is the last one of the season. Tickets for Breakfast with Santa go on sale Nov. 1. The breakfast itself is Saturday, Dec. 19, from 8:30 to 11 a.m. at the Chabolla Community Center, 600 Chabolla Avenue, according to the city's special events page.
So the day after Halloween, Galt is already selling tickets for December.
